HMI & Tungsten Lights

Here is how this works in practice. We source HMI and tungsten lighting from the deep, mature rental base in Bucharest, built over three decades of servicing global shoots, supplying daylight-balanced HMIs and warm, dimmable tungsten fixtures in the wattages the gaffer specifies. Our team builds the package around the lighting plan, from compact 575W and 1.2K HMIs through 4K and 18K heads for exterior fill or large interior spaces, alongside tungsten Fresnels from small units up to 20K for controlled studio and interior work.

Here is the short of it. Power planning is part of the package: we set up distribution and power packs sized to the HMI load. Supply the gels and correction needed to balance daylight and tungsten sources within the same scene. Each fixture and ballast is tested before delivery, spare lamps and extras travel with the package, and we can bring in skilled Romanian gaffers and electricians who know both the gear and local power systems. For shoots splitting between studio stages and Transylvanian locations, our technicians stay on call with backup units through the shoot.

Here is the breakdown. Romania is one of Europe's most set up and cost-competitive production destinations. Its locations shape how HMI and tungsten fixtures are used. Productions light grand heritage interiors, the Belle Epoque rooms of Bucharest and the warm halls of Peles Castle at Sinaia, where tungsten suits the period feel, then move to vast exteriors in the Carpathians where big HMIs punch daylight fill into shadow. Mains power runs at 230V/50Hz. Remote exteriors along the Transfagarasan road or in the UNESCO Danube Delta depend on power packs support.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. This we plan for big HMI draws. As an EU member now inside the Schengen Area, Romania lets lighting fixtures move freely from elsewhere in the EU with no ATA carnet, so extra heads cross-rented from regional houses reach set fast. Non-EU shoots still need a carnet. The temperate land-based climate brings cold, snowy winters that suit winter shoots. We manage the heat fixtures create against freezing exteriors and protect ballasts and lamps from condensation when moving between heated interiors and sub-zero locations.
