Focus Pullers / 1st ACs

Here is how this works in practice. We place focus pullers, also known as first camera assistants, who hold key focus and run the camera department's tech operation on shoots across Romania. Our focus pullers manage lens changes, build and keep the camera package, pull focus by eye and with wireless systems, and work in close partnership with the camera ops and director of photography to keep each take sharp.

Here is the short of it. We connect shoots with first ACs fluent across the today's cinema camera kits, skilled on features, episodic television, commercials and demanding action sequences, and comfortable on controlled stages at the Buftea and Castel Film studios as well as challenging location shoots. Because Romania's crew base is deep, skilled and competitively priced, a full camera department can be staffed locally, and qualifying crew spend counts toward the CNC cash rebates of up to 45 per cent on eligible Romanian expenditure. We brief each focus puller on the production's camera package so they integrate smoothly with the operator, loader and DIT from the first setup.

Here is the breakdown. Romania gives focus pullers a demanding, different set of conditions to master, and our first ACs are used in all of them. A production may move from a controlled stage at Buftea to the low light of a Transylvanian castle interior, the snow glare of a Carpathian mountainside or the close quarters of a medieval street in Sighisoara, each needing different judgement and technique.

Here is what that looks like on the ground. Three decades of servicing global shoots. This includes effects-heavy and action-driven features such as 'Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance' and recent streaming work on Netflix's 'Wednesday', have built a camera culture familiar with global standards and tricky coverage. The temperate four-season climate, with cold, often snowy winters, means first ACs here are used at keeping precise gear in difficult weather. UNATC and Bucharest's tech training pipeline continually feed the camera department. Romanian focus pullers work fluently in English alongside visiting operators and DPs.
