SCENE 01 / UNDERWATER LIGHTING
Underwater Lighting
Submersible lighting for your Romanian underwater production.
Here is how this works in practice. Underwater lighting needs specialized waterproof fixtures to illuminate subjects beneath the surface. Romania's Black Sea coast at Constanța, Mamaia, and Eforie gives brackish coastal conditions, while the Danube Delta—Europe's largest wetland and a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve—presents unique freshwater shoots that demand fixtures matched to murky visibility and conservation needs.
Here is the short of it. We supply pro submersible lighting systems and qualified dive crews across Bucharest, Cluj-Napoca, Brașov, Sibiu, and Timișoara. Our team sets up dive-rated LED and HMI fixtures, battery systems, and skilled underwater gaffers, with Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve Authority planning for delta shoots.

On Location
We supply submersible lighting and crews for underwater shoots on the Black Sea coast, in the UNESCO Danube Delta, and in controlled studio tanks near Bucharest.
Here is how this works in practice. We give underwater lighting as a pro discipline, supplying waterproof fixtures and the crew to rig and operate them safely below the surface. Lighting underwater is its own craft: water absorbs light fast and shifts colour with depth, suspended particles scatter the beam, and each fixture has to be sealed, ballasted, and powered to a strict safety standard.
Here is the short of it. Our Bucharest-based teams carry submersible HMI and LED systems, underwater distribution, and the rigging to position lights around a subject or set, and pair them with certified dive crew who light the scene in planning with the underwater camera ops. Romania's three-decade production history means this work integrates cleanly with the wider camera and electrical departments. The lit footage is handed to post colour-tied to the dry coverage. We plan underwater lighting around the dive schedule and the water conditions, build in the electrical safety and redundancy the environment demands, and handle the logistics for open-water and tank work alike.
Here is the breakdown. Romania gives different underwater settings for lit cinematography. The Black Sea coast around Constanța, Mamaia, and Eforie gives marine and port environments. The UNESCO Danube Delta - Europe's largest and best-preserved river delta - gives freshwater conditions. And controlled, lighting-friendly tank work runs at MediaPro Studios in Buftea and Castel Film Studios near Bucharest, where conditions can be managed precisely. Sea operations are set up with the Naval Authority. Danube Delta filming needs authorisation from the Danube Delta Reserve Authority, both of which our team secures.
Here is what that looks like on the ground. Mains power feeding the surface side of the lighting rig is a standard 230V/50Hz. As an EU member inside the Schengen Area, Romania lets submersible lighting and electrical gear move in from across the bloc with no ATA carnet, and eligible underwater-unit spend counts towards the CNC-administered cash rebates of up to 45 percent on Romanian costs.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What underwater lighting options do you offer?
We give LED and HMI submersible lights rated for many depths. LED units give efficient lighting for tank work in Bucharest studios. HMI delivers powerful daylight-balanced output to push through brackish Black Sea water and the murky Danube Delta.
How deep can you light underwater?
Our gear is rated for many depths—many units to 100m or more. Depth needs depend on the specific production needs, and we select appropriate gear to match.
Do you provide dive-qualified lighting technicians?
Yes, our underwater lighting technicians are qualified divers skilled in Black Sea and Danube Delta conditions. They can operate lights underwater while keeping proper dive protocols.
What about color temperature underwater?
Water absorbs red light fast with depth. We use daylight-balanced lights and can add filters to compensate. Color fix is easier with proper lighting than trying to fix in post.
Can you light large underwater areas?
Yes, we can deploy many units for large-scale underwater lighting setups. This needs careful planning for power, positioning, and safety but enables dramatic underwater scenes.
What Romanian waters do you work in?
Here is the breakdown. We work Romania's Black Sea coast at Constanța, Mamaia, and Eforie, plus the UNESCO-listed Danube Delta and the Danube river. We also operate in pool stages and water tanks at Bucharest studios for controlled scenes.
